This is an absolutely terrifying question, but I’m a freelance editor and writer, with a Master of Publishing and Communications (University of Melbourne), the Columbia Publishing Course certificate (Columbia University) and a Bachelors in English (University of Delhi).
I grew up in India and used to read a lot as a child. Then college happened, and I thought I didn’t like reading any more. Turns out I just didn’t like reading boring things (aka most writings by old, white, colonial men), and found my calling towards children’s and speculative fiction.
I like to engage critically with the question, “What makes a good story?” This involves plenty of reading and listening to books, editing manuscripts, watching movies and TV, playing video games and D&D, watching commentary on pop culture, writing (and trashing) my own fiction, and debating with fellow nerds. I still don’t know if there’s a magical formula to a good story, but I’ll keep you updated.
